One of the more hilariously awkward moments of my life…

So I’m sitting in a practice room at the U of A, working on my composition homework at the piano, and I can’t remember something about my assignment. I walk my laptop over to the little table things they have in there to look up the info on my assignment and I realize how tired I am. I didn’t get much sleep at last night, so as soon as that wall of text that I had to read opened up, I pretty much instantly dozed off.

I wake up a good forty five minutes later to the sound of frantic knocking on my door, and it makes me damn near jump out of my chair. I turn around to look out the door window and I see a young, rather upset looking young woman. “I have this room reserved,” she says, and I nod and start to gather my stuff. I then realize how weird of a position I had fallen asleep in, and the lower half of my right leg was COMPLETELY asleep. I mean I could feel nothing below my knee, and absolutely couldn’t move my ankle or toes. I turn around again to see her back turned to the door, but she’s looking to the side, so I can see she looks kind of ticked off. I was unsure how long she’d seen me sleeping there, or how many times she’d have to knock to wake me up, so I started feeling like a big jackass.

Now feeling like a jerk, I try and hurry to get my stuff together. I stand up and hobble to the door, basically on one foot, with my backpack on my shoulder. Just as I go to open the door, I lose my balance and fall forward into the door just after turning the knob. I hang onto the knob to keep from falling, and thankfully the angry singer was out of the way, but I did damn near fall on her, and the door slammed quite loudly into the wall. I tried to laugh at it but it was pretty much beyond laughing off at that point. I smiled and said “sorry,” trying to sound as innocent as possible. She smiled too and said “it’s okay,” but I couldn’t tell if it was fake or not. I was hoping she’d thought I’d injured my leg or something and felt bad. But I’m pretty sure she thought I was complete idiot. THE END.

I read this over and over again. It left a sadness in me that I can’t quite explain.
